WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED

Authored by: Kenneth M. Hoeck

Hebrews 12:29 For our God is a consuming fire.

"The Lord is...not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance."-2 Peter 3:9

The right column of the following table is comprised of scriptures that reflect the basic premise or understanding on the left. We have purposefully made this page this way so God's Word would have precedent comprising the bulk of the text. If you are not yet 'saved' by knowing the Savior Jesus Christ (in Greek Iesous Kristos and in Hebrew Yeshua Masciach) we encourage you ask God the Father and His Son to open your eyes to be able to see as you study the table below. If you have questions or seek counseling  please contact us at totw@truthontheweb.org. Also see our page on Repentance and Baptism.

1).

Believe God's word

Mark 1:15 "And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel."; 2Chronicles 20:20 ";... Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper." ; Mark 9:23 "Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.";   John 1:12 "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:"

2).

Realize that sin is the transgression of God's laws.

1John 3:4 "Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. ";   Psalm 119:172 "My tongue shall speak of thy word: for all thy commandments are righteousness.";   Deuteronomy 5:29 "O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!";   Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

3.)

Understand and come to realize that you are a sinner

Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God"; 1John 1:10 "If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.";  Ps 32:5 "I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah."; Psalm 51:3 "For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.";  Psalm 41:4 "I said, LORD, be merciful unto me: heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee."

4.)

Repent (turn from your sinful ways)and be Baptized.

Acts 2:38 "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.; " Jer 26:13 "Therefore now amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the LORD your God; .."; Ezekiel 18:30 "Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin." Mark 1:4 'John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins." ; Acts 3:19 "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;"  YOU ARE ONE OF GOD'S CHILDREN AFTER BAPTISM! YOU ARE A NEW CREATURE IN CHRIST.

5.)

Live by setting a good example

Matthew 3:8 "Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:"; Matthew 5:16 "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."  Phillipians 2:14 "Do all things without murmurings and disputings:15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; "1Timothy 4:12 "Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.";  1Peter 2:21 "For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:"; 1Peter 5:3 "Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock."  (Jesus says why do you call me Lord but not do the things I say?)

6.)

Continue overcoming sin and being obedient to God so you may not lose the gift of eternal life.

Romans 12:21 "Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.";  Deuteronomy 11:22" For if ye shall diligently keep all these commandments which I command you, to do them, to love the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cleave unto him; " Revelation 2:7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God. Re 2:11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.Re 2:17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.Re 2:26 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:Re 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.Re 3:12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.Re 3:21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. Re 21:7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

Salvation happens instantly, continuously and will be fully realized in the future. We have been saved, are being saved, and shall be saved.
