Free To Preach
First Amendment .... for everybody ... including Christians! Ron McRae of World Wide Street Preachers Fellowship (Harrisburg, PA) was arrested in 2005 for “defiant trespass” while preaching on a public sidewalk across the street from a public homosexual parade called “Pride-Fest 2005.” McRae was additionally charged with violating a city noise ordinance for using a megaphone to preach to the 'loud and proud' paraders and any onlookers.

The Alliance Defense Fund represented McRae and another arrested preacher in a suit against the city. The ADF said that the Christians' constitutional rights had been violated.
U.S. Middle District Court Judge William Caldwell agreed.

The attorney on behalf of ADF, Randy Wenger, said: “Christian speech shouldn’t be treated differently than any other kind of speech in a public forum. The city has now agreed not to misuse noise ordinances and trespass statutes to silence Christian speech on public rights-of-way.  Doing so violates the constitutionally guaranteed rights found in the First Amendment.”

The street preachers were able to witness publicly during the 2006 "gay pride" event and there were no arrests of the Christian faction this year.

National State Militia?
Second Ammendment ....

A proposed National Defense law would allow the president to take control of the National Guard in any state during emergencies without gubernatorial consent. The National Defense Authorization Act of 2007 would overshadow and trump state governor's control of the National Guard. Twenty-four members of the National Governors Association wrote to the members of the US House Armed Services Committee to sound an alarm. In the letter, they told the committee members, "The nation's governors feel very strongly about protecting our constitutional responsibility to take care of our citizens, and do not want that responsibility shifted to federal officials."

Most Americans today believe that the National Guard is the Militia reserved to the states in the State Constitutions and the Constitution of the United States of America. The National Guard did not exist from the beginnings of the Republic until 1903 when it was instituted and created by Congress as the Act of January 21 , 1903.

In 1982 the Senate Judiciary Committee Sub-committee on the Constitution stated in Senate Document 2807 : "That the National Guard is not the 'Militia' referred to in the Second Amendment is even clearer today. Congress had organized the National Guard under its power to 'raise and support armies' and not its power to 'Provide for organizing, arming and disciplining the militia.' The modern National Guard was specifically intended to avoid status as the constitutional militia, a distinction recognized by 10 U.S.C. 311(a).  Title 32 U.S.C. in July 1918 completely altered the definition of the militia and its service, who controls it and what it is. The difference between the National Guard and Regular Army was swept away, and became a personnel pay folder classification only, thus nationalizing the entire National Guard into the Regular Standing Armies of the United States."

Now it makes sense why all the arms, munitions, armament and equipment of the National Guard is owned and controlled by the federal government, not by "the people" as clearly stipulated in the last phrase of the Second Amendment. Amendment II - Right to Bear Arms. Ratified 12/15/1791: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Propaganda bibles
The U.K. Daily Mirror scooped a story about the discovery of an old Nazi bible called "Deutsch mit Gott" or "Germans with God" in a Hamburg church. Apparently, Adolf Hitler ordered the rewrite of the Christian bible utilizing a theological think tank he created in 1939 to produce the work. In 1941, around 100,000 of the WWII Third Reich bibles were distributed to Germany's churches. The book is a rare find as most, if not all, other copies were destroyed by Christians who were offended by the altering pen of the Nazi scribes.

An Adolf Hitler’s version of the Ten Commandments in the German Book of Faith became Twelve Commandments including some to support Arayan race bigotry, submission to the Fuehrer, and Socialism.

1. Honor God and believe in him wholeheartedly
2. Seek out the peace of God
3. Avoid all hypocrisy
4. Holy is your health and life
5. Holy is your well-being and honor
6. Holy is your truth and fidelity
7. Honor your father and mother – your children are your aid and your example
8. Keep the blood pure and your honor holy
9. Maintain and multiply the heritage of your forefathers
10. Be ready to help and forgive
11. Honor your Fuehrer and master
12. Joyously serve the people with work and sacrifice.

The work saw the eradication of so-called 'Jewish' words, including Zion, Hosanna, Moses, Hallelujah, Jehovah and even Jerusalem, which became "the eternal city of God" or "Eternity – the Divine city of light." Most representations of compassion were also erased. Hitler, in a memorandum to the institute in Eisenach , said: "The book will have to serve the fight against the immortal Jewish enemy."
Walter Grundmann, the anti-Semitic director appointed by Hitler wrote in 1941: "The Bible must become Jew-free and the German people must see that the Jews are the mortal enemy who threaten their very existence."

It is good that most of these pieces of garbage were destroyed or lost ... as those who wrote them.

Taste My Jesus
The following tale is repeated on many websites - some post it as an urban legend. Regardless of the veracity of such statements the point made by the modern parable is true nonetheless.   Psalms 34:8  O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

At the University of Chicago Divinity School each year they have what is called "Baptist Day." On this day each one is to bring a lunch to be eaten outdoors in a grassy picnic area.  Every Baptist Day the school would invite one of the greatest minds to lecture in the theological education center.

One year they invited theologian Dr. Paul Tillich.  Dr.Tillich spoke for two and one-half hours "proving" that the resurrection of Jesus was false.  He quoted scholar after scholar and book after book.  He concluded that since there was 'no such thing' as the historical resurrection, the religious tradition of the church was groundless, emotional mumbo-jumbo, because it was based on a relationship with a risen Jesus, who, in fact, never rose from the dead in any literal sense.

He then asked if there were any questions.  After about 30 seconds, an old, dark skinned preacher with a head of short-cropped, woolly white hair stood up in the back of the auditorium.  "Docta Tillich, I got one question," he said, as all eyes turned toward him.  He reached into his sack lunch and pulled out an apple and began eating it.  "Docta Tillich" . . . CRUNCH, MUNCH.  "My question is a simple question."  CRUNCH, MUNCH . . ."Now, I ain't never read them books you read . . . CRUNCH, MUNCH, and I can't recite the Scriptures in the original Greek. I don't know nothin about Niebuhr and Heidegger." . . .  CRUNCH, MUNCH . . . He finished the apple. "All I wanna know is: This apple I just ate - was it bitter or sweet?"

Dr. Tillich paused for a moment and answered in exemplary scholarly fashion, "I cannot possibly answer that question, for I haven't tasted your apple."  The white-haired preacher dropped the core of  his apple into his crumpled paper bag, looked up at Dr. Tillich and said calmly,"Neither have you tasted my Jesus."

The 1,000 plus in attendance could not contain themselves.  The auditorium erupted with applause and cheers.  Dr. Tillich thanked his audience and promptly left the platform.

Label Me - I'll Label You

Some may call us "Legalist" - if you mean we believe in keeping the law - then this is true. If you mean we think we achieve salvation by the law - then you are mistaken about our beliefs.

Webster's modern Collegiate Dictionary says a "
legalist" is:
1 : an advocate or adherent of moral legalism
2 : one that views things from a legal standpoint ; especially : one that places primary emphasis on legal principles or on the formal structure of governmental institutions

I guess being called a legalist is better than being called an 'illegalist', eh? The word "legalist" cannot be found in Webster's 1828 dictionary but another more interesting word is there.

The American dictionary of the English Language by Noah Webster (1828) defines the word “antinomian”:

ANTINO'MIAN,  a. Gr. against, and law. Against law; pertaining to the Antinomians.

ANTINO'MIAN, n. One of a sect who maintain, that, under the gospel dispensation, the law is of no use or obligation; or who hold doctrines which supersede the necessity of good works and a virtuous life. This sect originated with John Agricola about the year 1538.
antinomist

AN'TINOMIST, n. One who pays no regard to the law, or to good works.

[TOTW Note: 1538 .....  Ironically, this is also the time period of the Protestant Reformation (1529) and the inauguration of a new calendar ordered by Pope Gregory (1582).] We believe that we should obey God and not break his commandments. We also believe that we are saved by grace alone through our faith in trusting in the atoning blood of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
Revelation 14:12  Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

TOTW's TOTW :    Truth On The Web's Thought Of The Week

Did you pray today? If you did you are wiser than most whom neglect such an important part of our relationship with The Father. When we pray we: give thanks, ask for forgiveness, pray for gifts, petition for healings, appeal for blessings, and tell God all our problems. In all this ... are we yet communicating with God? Communication is a two-way street, my Christian friend. Did you take the time to listen to your Heavenly Father (the wisest, most loving being in the Universe)?

John 8:47 He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

Job 37:2 Hear attentively the noise of his voice, and the sound that goeth out of his mouth
.

European theologian and Christian philososher, Soren Kierkegaard said, "A man prayed ... and at first he thought that prayer was talking ... but he became more and more quiet .... until he learned .... that prayer is listening." What did Kierkegaard mean by a statement like that?

Maybe Ol' Soren read the scriptures enough to hear what it was saying to him.

Proverbs 19:20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.

Matthew 11:15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

We should take time to listen to God.

Proverbs 1:5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels

James 1:19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

We should listen and take heed.

Proverbs 4:1-2 Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.

Luke 11:28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

God speaks to us through the scriptures and through His spirit which He gives to those who obey Him.

Proverbs 8:32-35 Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways. Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not. Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD.

Proverbs 22:17 Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.

The Preacher said it best in the book of
Ecclesiastes 5:1-3 Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil. Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few. For a dream cometh through the multitude of business; and a fool's voice is known by multitude of words.

God wants to speak to you. Its like that tv commercial with the cell phone but its not some man walking further away asking you you can still hear him. Its God - coming closer as you draw close to Him - saying, "Can you hear me now?"

[
James 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.]

Revelation 3:22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
