His Way

I used to sing, as Ol’Frank would say

I lived full life and did it my way.

I used to take all I could steal.

I longed to touch all I could feel

I used to love just fun and play.

I wanted choice to do things my way.

Until I read the Word of God

And found it, oh, so very odd

That I was formed - by God from clay

And was not meant - to live this way

That I was broke in need of mend

And soon my sinful life would end

I cried “Oh God,” upon my knees,

“I know I’m meant for You- to please”

“The blood of Christ was shed for me

To show your love eternally”

So then I saw beyond the bend

I knew I needed God as Friend.

And, by His grace, I now can say

“I’ll live my life … and do it - His Way”

In 2004, I was making a sermon outline for the upcoming Feast of Tabernacles and I was contemplating how man fell from his function as originally designed. My original thought was to model it after the theme "Broken Man." At one instant the words to the famous Frank Sinatra song "My Way" came into my mind:  For what is a man, what has he got? If not himself, then he has naught.  To say the things he truly feels; And not the words of one who kneels. The record shows I took the blows -And did it my way!

I choked on the words as I wondered why this came into my thoughts. In an instant, the spirit was upon me and I was prompted to "write a devotional poem" against this worldly view. I humbly share it with the saints today:
